Science for Life
Sci4Life started in January 2009.
We aim to develop a best practice approach to science education that:
- uses constructivist pedagogy - Inquiry and Problem-based learning
- create positive experiences for students in science
- engages students in authentic and contextual research projects using science being undertaken in our research centres - CRI's, Universities and Private research providers
- energises science teaching
- develops best practise models
- utilises the power and freedom of the new curriculum
- moves away from the simple transmission of science knowledge from 'experts' to students
We will achieve this by
- engaging widely with interested parties
- developing inquiry models that accommodate students and
teachers at levels appropriate to each
school's needs and experience
- Immersion of teachers and
students in current Scion research programmes (and other providers programmes when Sci4Life is launched.)
- Integration
of the science achievement objectives of the new national curriculum with
Scion research programmes.
- Mentoring
of teachers and students online by scientists and inquiry specialists.
- Use of appropriate ICT and
educational tools.
- Provision of supporting online
professional development programmes in inquiry-based learning and science
method.
- Development and nurture of
thinking skills.
- Creation of an online community
of learning engaging teachers and scientists.
