The Bay of Plenty is famous for its pohutukawa trees. As part of their school camp, Mokoia students undertook inquiries into the special adaptations of this iconic tree to life on the beach.
Mokoia Students used proscopes and cameras to record the way in which pohutukawa is supremely adapted to the harsh coastal environment. They explored its shape, leaves, root systems and bark and looked closely at the human pressures these coastal forests face today. |
